Environmental impacts of canola (Brassica napus L.) production in Iran: a case study in Alborz province

In this study, the environmental impacts of rapeseed production were studied using SimaPro software. The initial data collected from 30 farmers in Alborz Province by face-to-face questionnaire method. selected functional unit (FU) was one Mton-1 production. Five indices evaluated, including potential abiotic depletion, acidification, eutrophication, global warming and ozone layer depletion. To produce each ton rapeseed, 84 kg nitrogen, 63 phosphate, potassium, 133.5 l diesel fuel 586 kW electricity used. Also, CO2, CO, N2O NOX (different types oxides nitrogen) emissions about 361, 4.1, 11.5 4.8 per respectively. results indicate that amounts to 1629.52 CO2 eq. acidification eutrophication potentials found be 8.31 SO2 2.73 PO4 It also revealed chemical fertilizers had highest contribution among evaluated inputs within growing period. Overall, study showed reducing consumption fertilizers, especially nitrogen-based ones, is important for footprints
